THE CONSTRUCTION OF A SOLAR PHOTOVOLTAIC PLANT AS AN AUXILLARY OF THE SONICHAR 2 × 25 MW PLANT
Sector: Energy
Type: Public
Project manager: Ministry of Energy
Estimated cost (USD): USD 12.5 million
Estimated cost (FCFA): FCFA 6.2 billion
The project is for the construction of a solar photovoltaic park in the Far North of Niger, with a production capacity of 50 MW. This plant would be in line with the national strategy for reduction of dependence on electric power. The project’s core objective is to increase the SONICHAR electric power production potential through mini photovoltaic panels from SUNPOWER modules (SUNPOWER series P19 – model SPR-P19-405-COM), the most efficient and robust available today.
Benefits
- Promotion of renewable energy sources;
- Consolidation of the economic and social development of the Far North Niger region;
- Assured investment profitability: site located in a large sunny area equipped with an electric power line to enable the plant to function at full capacity all year round;
- The modules will be submitted to “desert control” and after 25 years of production, will guarantee power above 82.6%.
